Mechanism Overview

Long R3 IGF-I was developed as a recombinant fusion analog with reduced IGF-binding protein affinity, which was associated with enhanced biological potency (Francis 1992). IGF-I variants with poor IGFBP binding were more anabolic than native IGF-I in dexamethasone-treated rats (Tomas 1992), kept their higher potency when given by injection rather than infusion (Tomas 1996), and increased growth in artificially reared neonatal pigs (Dunshea 2002).
